I'm amazed at how cell phones have taken off. And there's lots of great gift ideas attached to cell phones.

The world can't seem to get enough of cell phones. Technology talks, and we listen. But of course a cell phone is a fine piece of equipment, and incredibly useful too.

So what about cell phones as gifts? Well unless he's been living under a rock lately he's already got one. I mean who knows someone who doesn't have a cell phone now? So a cell phone is unlikely to cut it as a gift idea.

Now of course you could always upgrade his cell phone for him, there's new ones out every day and they get better and better all the time, and do more and more. However the newer cell phones aren't cheap, and so may be a little beyond your reach as a gift idea for your man.

How about cell phone accessories? I like cell phone accessories as a gift idea, because so many of them allow you to give him a gift that personalizes his cell phone but doesn't cost a bomb.

Take cell phone covers for example.

There's a stunning range available, including some great motifs that men would love. I've been browsing through some today (Hmmm, which one should I get?) Read more

Does he like to express his emotions when he's driving?

Last night I was stuck behind a big truck at night, going very slowly up a hill, nowhere to pass him. And to my surprise he pulled over to let me pass up the hill. A nice gesture and one which I rewarded with a couple of flashes of my hazard lights to say thanks.

That's about the best you can do to say thanks to someone else in another vehicle, or at least so I thought until today when a reader alerted me to a new device that would have been perfect in the circumstances.
Car Message

It's called the car message sign and it's a small remote controlled receiver that sticks to the back window of his car and allows him to tell the driver behind that he's been nice to you, and thanks.

There's 4 different emotions to express by different smiley faces, or not so smiley faces, and you can of course choose which you want to use in which circumstances. Including one telling the driver behind that you think he's an idiot.

Well maybe he could say that with the traditional finger out the window, but it's hard to say thanks like that. Read more

Does your man love to cook? Does he love chicken?

I love to cook, I've said that before. I do the cooking for my family. And I love chicken. I cook chicken in just about every way I can, my favorite is probably roasted. Lately I've discovered corn fed chicken. Yum.

There are some wonderful chicken recipes around, you could spend your whole life trying to cook them all and only scratch the surface.
Chicken Cooker Mens Gift

And of course there's all sorts of things that are wonderful to use to baste, stuff, marinate in and so on. Including such wonderful things as beer. Beer is a fine ingredient for some hot chicken recipes.

Today I was looking around Chefs Catalogue, one of my favorite sites for all things cooking, and came across the Vertical Chicken Beer Roaster which grabbed my attention.

Fill the cylinder with beer, (or something else yummy like a fruit juice, or use your imagination) and put the chicken over it and roast.

Maybe put some great spices on the cylinder and the outside of the chicken if you'd like to spice it up a little. Read more

More great golf gift ideas for a golf fanatic.

I seem to be on a bit of a golf gift theme at the moment. No idea why, although I know golf gifts are huge, there's so many people out there who give and receive golf gifts.

So recently I've written about golf travel cases and sports logo golf balls. When I look for a good golf gift I like to suggest something out of the ordinary.

Hopefully this golf gift suggestion fits the bill there too.

It's a golf destination book. I have to say I was taken in by the title, Fifty Places to Play Golf Before You Die.

It's all about the worlds greatest golf courses, the sort of golf course that he (or you) would just die to play, no pun intended. The favorite courses of world famous players, course designers and other golf experts.

Stunning photos, full color, course descriptions and even descriptions of THOSE holes.

It's a beautiful coffee table book, and if he's a golf fanatic he'll love it, but you might find that you lose him from time to time when he decides that he IS going to play one or more of those golf courses and disappears to do so. Read more

Here's a gift idea that would appeal to me.

I love sports and outdoors, I do as much as possible. But when it comes to doing sports or outdoors activities in the summer I really feel the heat.

My wife feels the cold. I feel the heat. If it's hot I die. And I must wear a hat in the sun, I don't have as much hair as I'd like and if I don't wear a hat I suffer from sunburn on the top of the head. Not nice, and not healthy these days with skin cancer on the rise. But if I put a hat on on a hot day it makes my body temperature skyrocket.

Here's a simple effective idea for an outdoors man who feels the heat, or for anyone who needs a little cooling down on a hot day.
insulating cap

An evaporative cooling hat. Specifically designed to allow the sun to evaporate water from the hat to keep you cool.

Now I usually wet my hat when I put it on on a hot day, I know it works to keep you cooler, but this hat is specifically designed to do it much better. 3 layers of specially designed fabric. Both hydrophilic (water-attracting) and hydrophobic (water-rejecting) fibers to keep the water away from the top of your head and in the top layer of the hat where it evaporates to best effect, and also in a middle layer to stop the water evaporating too fast.

All up keeping your head up to 30 degrees cooler on a hot day. Read more

There's not a lot of good unique golf gift ideas around.

Golfers are everywhere, including me. Golf is one of the most popular (and hardest, take it from me) sports in the world.

So if your man is a golfer then you might like to get a nice golf gift for him.

Problem is, there aren't a lot of golf gifts around that haven't been done before. I've already written about one that I think is pretty different, personalized golf balls, but most other golf gifts are, well, a bit ho hum. He's probably got one already.

But  I got a comment from someone on one of my articles about their own site offering antique hickory golf clubs for sale. As this seemed a bit different to all the golf stuff that I've seen around I thought I'd check it out, and thought it was a pretty good gift idea.

Hickory Sticks have a fine collection of restored antique wooden shaft golf clubs. They offer them for sale and as a gift idea for an avid golfer I love them. And I suspect that over the years as these old sticks get more and more scarce they may become quite valuable.

A single club is $150 so it isn't a cheap gift for him, but it's a quite unique golf gift idea.

Maybe a good gift idea for a man on fathers day, although of course they make a good gift for a man at any time, so if you're a  little too late for fathers day then some other occasion, like his birthday, would be fine.
