Justin Consuegra of The Mens Gift Guide picked up on my article about mens wedding rings. He’s mostly in agreement with what I had to say, happily, but he makes some more pertinent points.
Some men, he argues, aren’t the type to wear a wedding ring, but that there may well be some other piece of jewelry, or some other type of gift entirely, that he can be given on the wedding day.
He recites a lovely personal story about his grandmother who, when she was dying, gave his granfather a gold necklace, knowing of the likelihood that he would remarry and remove the wedding ring he wore for her. And through successive relationships that necklace never came off.
As a celebration of the fact that mens jewelry is going ahead in leaps and bounds at the moment Justin is dedicating this week of his blog to Mens Jewelry. Check it out and see what he comes up with.

I love all sorts of gifts that you give him just for a laugh. I don’t know what it is about funny gifts but they’re just – funny.
And laughter makes the world go round doesn’t it?
If you ‘re stuck for a gift idea for your man a funny gift will usually work.
Funny gifts are always remembering as a gift idea. The best time to start thinking funny is when you’re totally out of ideas.
So, if it’s a funny gift you’re after, why not a desktop horseshoes game? Complete with horseshoe court with realistic turf, metal horseshoes, and sand, rake and trophies.
Thanks to the Nerd Approved blog for this idea, it’s well worth a look at the blog, there’s lots of amusing ideas there, for all sorts of things.

So it’s his birthday, and you’re completely stuck for new ideas for a birthday present for him?

Here’s a few ideas for a birthday present for a manwith a computer with a USB drive. There’s all sorts of new USB devices on the market, I didn’t realize quite how many until I started researching them. Hundreds probably, and some excellent ones too. It seems a USB will power just about anything now.
So here’s 4 cool USB devices that would make a wonderful birthday present for a man, from pretty cheap to more expensive, so you’ve got a range of choices.
1. Every man loves a Swiss Army Knife, right? And every man worth his salt already has one? Right?
Wrong. Not many men have a Swiss Army Knife like this. It’s the Swiss Army Knife for the 21st century. So the man with everything can cut his way out of a mantrap while still saving his important data!
Plugs into a USB port and includes a USB flash drive, red LED light, ballpoint pen, knife, scissors, file with screwdriver, keyring. USB cable to connect. Swiss Army tough construction. Flash drive is USB powered, no external power supply required. The LED blinks to indicate read/write activity. It works with Windows 98/SE/2000/ME/XP, MAC OS 9.x or above, Linux 2.4 or above. And has a USB 1.1/2.0 interface.
The man who has everything DOESN’T have a USB flashdrive Swiss Army Knife, so it makes a great birthday present for him.

It’s the age old dilemma. He wants sex and she wants romance.
It’s the “Mens are from Mars and Women are from Venus” thing.
And from my perspective as a non expert in sex and relationships I think it’s true.
That’s just the way it is. Men love sex. It’s said they think about sex at least 3 times every hour. Or more. Maybe that’s an exaggeration, but not by much.
And women love love, and romance, and sitting by the fire together, and long walks. That’s just the way it is. That’s women.
Is this a disaster for relationships? A fundamental mismatch? A problem that so many cannot get over in their relationship? No, I think not.
It would be wonderful if men and women matched perfectly in needs, wants, desires. But they don’t. You can see it as a mismatch, but there’s nothing you can do about it.
I prefer to see it as an opportunity. That’s the way it is and it’s not going to change, so why not make something positive from it?
