Fathers day giftsIt’s fathers day in Australia soon. This weekend in fact. So if you’re one of my Australian visitors and you’re looking for an idea or 2 for great fathers day gifts for him, here’s an idea or 2 for you:

How about a USB powered coffee warmer? Sits right there on your desk and keeps your – or his – coffee warm all day.

Or perhaps a motorized golf ball massager? For the dad who works too hard.

A week or 2 ago I talked about a fantastic website where you could find all sorts of adventure and unique birthday gifts for men and women.

Personally I think an adventure gift for the adventure type of man makes a wonderful and unique birthday gift.

Only problem was that that site was a UK site. Well that’s not a problem if you live in the UK, but I also said I’d find a North American site for my US readers as well.

I’ve done that. So if you’re in the US, and you think your man would enjoy a special and unique birthday gift of an adventure challenge, then read on.

I’m certainly the adventure type, and would love to receive an adventure gift for my birthday. There are so many men who would love the challenge of a special gift of adrenalin. I tried parachuting for a while and loved it.

The real question is how adventurous your man is and how far he would like to go. For the really adventurous there are all sorts of adventure gifts to get his heart racing, but for many men these gifts may be a bit too much. Adventure is one thing, but pure fear is another.

Now here’s a gift with a difference. When I read about it I didn’t understand what it was. But it’s a gift for a photographer.

It’s called the MonsterPod.

Photographic gift for a manHere’s what the MonsterPod is, right from the website: “MonsterPod is a Viscoelastic Polymer-based tripod” Maybe it is, but what is it and what does it do?

Well it didn’t take too much more reading before I figured it out, it wasn’t so hard. It’s something that STICKS TO EVERYTHING.

What in fact it is is a device to allow a photographer to put his camera anywhere he wants, by attaching it to the MonsterPod and then sticking the MonsterPod to something that mounts the camera exactly where the photographer wants it.

It’s like a tripod, but oh so much more useful. A tripod just sits on the ground, if he wants to hang his camera from the ceiling a tripod won’t cut it. But you attach your camera to the MonsterPod then stick the MonsterPod to anything, thereby mounting your, or his, camera, wherever it is needed. It adds a whole new dimension to taking fixed photos.

And if you’re thinking oh yes, I bet it doesn’t stick that well, what happens if it falls off, I’ve found a video review of the MonsterPod by CNet. Click here.

Here is a beautiful poem about gift giving. It’s from a lovely site called Beyond The Crossroads

I loved it as soon as I read it.

I won’t put it all here, go to the site and read the poem for yourself.

I will however put the first paragraph here so you can get a taste, read the rest on the website.

Now here’s a free – and unusual gift for a man with a difference. The Rasterbator.

Now I can see you going Hmmm…………….should I keep reading? Yes keep reading, it’s nothing like you’re imagining.

The Rasterbator is an online imaging service, where you take an image and convert it to a black and white, color or monochrome colored dot image. Have a look at their website and they have a whole gallery of photos of Rasterbated images there for you to get an idea of exactly what you can produce.
Download it in a pdf file and print it in individual A4 sheets.

Then put it on a wall and it makes a wonderful and arty wall hanging, or painting, or ??? I don’t quite know what you’d call it. But it looks great.

You can use any image you like. Why not a photo of you so he can have a stylised picture of you on his wall? Or even a photo of him?

Or perhaps his dog? Any photo of something that is important to him really.
It’s completely free to use and it’s pretty self explanatory, I worked out how to use it in a few minutes, just follow the prompts. It takes a while to “rasterbate” the image, so maybe you need to make a cup of coffee while you’re waiting, otherwise it’s pretty simple.

Inexpensive gift for a manThis just took my fancy. A clock made from a recycled cd. A nice gift for a geek, or any man who likes things that are a little different.

It takes 3 cds to create the strange cracked effect. It’s handmade, and useful of course, it’s a clock.
Hang it on the wall, or freestanding on the desk. For $15.95 I think it’s extremely good value. That’s a good price for anything that is hand made these days.

Not much more to say about this, I just found it and thought it was a fine mans gift for $16.

There’s something to be said for hand made gifts too, maybe I’m just old fashioned but I like gift ideas for gifts that aren’t just mass produced in a Chinese factory. And there aren’t so many of those around now.
