Last night I was stuck behind a big truck at night, going very slowly up a hill, nowhere to pass him. And to my surprise he pulled over to let me pass up the hill. A nice gesture and one which I rewarded with a couple of flashes of my hazard lights to say thanks.

That’s about the best you can do to say thanks to someone else in another vehicle, or at least so I thought until today when a reader alerted me to a new device that would have been perfect in the circumstances.

It’s called the car message sign and it’s a small remote controlled receiver that sticks to the back window of his car and allows him to tell the driver behind that he’s been nice to you, and thanks.

There’s 4 different emotions to express by different smiley faces, or not so smiley faces, and you can of course choose which you want to use in which circumstances. Including one telling the driver behind that you think he’s an idiot.

Well maybe he could say that with the traditional finger out the window, but it’s hard to say thanks like that.

It’s a funny gadget. Men love gadgets, and those who do may love this one for the back window of their car.

Girls, there’s your que, remember that guys love gadgets. If you’re stuck for great gift ideas remember that. I’ll say it again. Guys love gadgets.

So if you can find a great gadget or gizmo then it can be a great gift idea for a guy.

New gadgets are everywhere, there seems to be an insatiable demand for them, and an enormous supply of new gadgets for a hungry market.

“Gadget’ can of course mean many things. Probably the best definition of what a gadget is is the definition of gadget from Wikipedia.

“A gadget is a device or an appliance that has a useful specific practical purpose and function but is often thought of as a novelty. It’s a pretty good definition, but it doesn’t explain why guys love gadgets! I suspect it’s something to do with the “novelty” aspect. Gadgets are fun, novel, different. There is something “cutting edge” about gadgets, something new and exciting.

However it doesn’t really matter why men love high tech gadgets, just that they do. And if men love gadgets then a great gadget makes a great Christmas gift, or birthday gift or any other gift for a man.

So I’m starting a series on gadgets that make good mens gifts. I’ll both look at some great gadgets and also suggest to you some good resources for finding gadget ideas.

Electric gadgets, mechanical gadgets, electronic gadgets, computer gadgets, there’s lots of them so I’ll have lots of material to draw on!
