3 Tips To Finding The Best Christmas Gift Of 2007 For YOUR Man
Tons of people spend lots of their time searching online for gifts for their man. It's tough coming up with great gift ideas.
I look at the searches people do online for Christmas gifts. They search for hot Christmas gifts, or the best Christmas gifts, or the top Christmas gifts, Christmas gift previews and so on.
But you know I really don't think you're likely to find a great gift for your man like that. The hottest Christmas gift of 2007 may be a total flop as a Christmas gift for YOUR man.
Because a great gift isn't about the hottest or the best or the latest or the greatest. That isn't relevant to HIM. He is an individual, and may not be remotely interested in the best or the hottest.
The best or the hottest is advertising. It's gifts companies trying to stir up sales by getting their products listed as the latest and greatest Christmas gift for the year. And if it's listed as the latest and hottest then they're hoping that lots of people are going to get out there and buy it.
Searching for the hottest Christmas gift ISN"T likely to find you a Christmas gift that your man will love.
Finding a great gift isn't an exercise in fashion. It's about knowing your man. Knowing what makes him tick. Knowing his likes and dislikes, his favorites, his loves.
It isn't easy. Finding a great gift takes effort, and thought. Gift giving is something that you need to work at.
Here's 3 tips that may help you finding a Christmas gift your man will love.
1. Start early.
So many people leave things too late. Both deciding on a gift idea and buying the gift. It's far easier to start thinking of gift ideas early than on December 20th. It's something that you should really be doing all year.
That doesn't mean that you need to obsess over it. Just that it's something that you can have in the back of your mind.
Personally I think that one of the best times for Christmas gift ideas is Christmas day. For next years gifts.
Listen to him when he opens his gifts. What did he really like? When he sees someone else open a gift what was his reaction? Did he love their gift? Did he pick it up and have a look or a play with it?
Watching someone open gifts and seeing other people open gifts is a great way to get gift ideas for next Christmas.
Do this all year when an opportunity pops up. What turned him on? What didn't?
Then make a small discreet list of ideas somewhere so you don't forget, and add to it over the year.
2. Look for ideas for gifts that HE WOULD NEVER BUY FOR HIMSELF.
A great gift is a gift that delights, and a gift that he wouldn't normally buy for himself is a delightful luxury gift. Of course it needs to be something that he likes.
I'll give you an example. As I write a website I spend a lot of my time sitting in front of a computer. For a year or so I sat on a simple basic chair. It worked, I could sit, but it was as basic as it gets.
So for a gift my wife bought me a fancy, adjustable office chair on wheels. I love it and it's so much more comfortable than the simple one I had. I would never have bought it for myself as I'd have considered it an unnecessary expense, but now I've got it I wouldn't be without it. A great gift.
So look for ideas for gifts that offer some luxury or comfort that he wouldn't think of or if he did wouldn't buy for himself.
3. Listen to him.
This bears on numbers 1 and 2. Through the year listen to him for clues. Like I've said, listen on Christmas day, or his birthday. And listen from day to day to what he talks about with a gifts viewpoint. If he complains about something then store away that little piece of information and look for ideas for gifts that may remedy what he's complained about.
Search what he talks about for hidden gift ideas.
If you do all 3 of these things then you've got 12 months to come up with the [tag-tec]top Christmas gift of 2007[/tag-tec], or 2008, or 2009, for YOUR man.
Is it easy? No. Does it take effort? You bet it does. Finding a gift is easy. Finding a GREAT gift takes effort.
