More Hot Christmas Gifts For 2007. A DVD Player.
DVD players are going to be hot this Christmas. That’s not to say of course that they aren’t already, but there are so many new models around and so many new features that they are just getting better and better as a Christmas gift for birthday gift idea.
And for those who don’t have a fortune to spend they are also getting cheaper and cheaper.
About this time last year my family and I spent 3 months living in China. We bought a video player over there and connected it up to a TV that we had right there in the apartment for us to use. It worked absolutely fine and we have brought it back home and now have it working with our regular TV at home, and it’s still working fine.
It cost the equivalent of around $60. That’s pretty cheap, and they aren’t a whole lot more expensive here either.
So if you’re looking for a hot Christmas gift in 2007 then why not a DVD player for your man if he doesn’t have one? It can be a fantastic and very cheap Christmas present.
I’m not going into all the new features of the new breed of DVDs here, I’m not sufficiently techie and therefore not really qualified to review them, that’s for others who know a lot more about the technicals of how DVD players work and what features do what.
I am though, going to comment on my experiences of buying a cheap DVD player. Because I am sure that there are many women out there who would love to buy a great Christmas gift for your man for $60 or so, but who are just a little bit wary of an electronic device that cheap.
Do they really work, and is it worth buying one of the cheapies, or is it really better to spend more?
One of the first things you need to understand is that a DVD player is just that, a player. It plays DVDs ony, it doesn’t record. It’s not like the old fashioned video recorder where you can record then play back. That is far more useful, and can be done with a DVD, but you need to pay lots more. So if the DVD market is new to you remember, if you buy him a DVD player he will need to have DVDs to play.
So there’s some more great Christmas or birthday gift ideas for you. Get him some DVDs to play on his player.
So, do you buy a cheapie or spend up big? From my totally unqualified viewpoint and a little research.
I think a lot of it comes down to the TV you’re using. My DVD works absolutely fine on our 51 cm screen Sony, I have no problems with the quality, or the sound. It is totally adequate for the job. However if you’re giving a DVD to a man with a 127 cm high resolution flat screen you’ll need to spend a little more time looking into whether the quality of the DVD will suit the quality of the TV it’s being used on. From my research the cheapy DVDs won’t cut it on the current generation of high definition large screen TVs.
Also from my research the other issue is the life of the DVD player. Ours has worked fine for 1 year, no problems, but from my reading you can’t expect a 5 or 10 year lifespan from it. 2 years maybe. But for $70 or so you can’t complain at that. My video has lasted for almost 8 years, but if you work that out on a yearly cost it’s probably comparable to a cheap DVD that lasts 2 years. You get what you pay for.
If you’re thinking of a DVD player for a [tag-tec]Christmas gift for a man[/tag-tec] I can confirm that we are very happy with out cheapy. However you need to do some more research on it, and here is a good place to start.
I do think DVD players are going to be hot this Christmas, both the low price end range of players as well as the more expensive versions. The new flat screen TVs are hot right now and sales of DVD players and DVD recorders will follow. It’s up to you to decide whether you’re prepared to spend up big on one as a gift for whether you’re happy to buy a cheapy and make the best of that.
But there’s no doubt for us that a cheapy has done the job fine.
